Things I believe in
I believe in the essential decency and fairness of the American people. This does
not mean, however, that I believe our leaders and our voters always to be of sound
judgment. Democracy does not guarantee wisdom or virtue; it guarantees only the
principles of majority rule and freedom of choice. And freedom of choice includes,
whether we like it or not, the right to be wrong. We can only hope that from time
to time our leaders will be right.
Now is not such a time.
